Corona Centennial is making a serious case for consideration near the top of the national rankings, it not the very top itself.
In the latest of a series of dominant victories for the Huskies, Centennial jumped out to a 55-0 lead against crosstown rival Corona at halftime, cruising through the game’s final two periods en route to a 69-7 victory. The expected win kept Centennial undefeated and with a direct track toward the top of their section’s playoff power rankings. For the record, the lone Corona touchdown came late in the fourth quarter when the game was long since decided and there was absolutely no lingering drama whatsoever.
For the Huskies, not getting ahead of themselves remains one of the program’s biggest risks. Centennial faces one more opponent in the regular season, with 7-1 Norco in waiting. That could be an 8-1 record by the time they face the Huskies, a record which would seemingly ensure that CEntennial has its eyes firmly fixed on the task at hand, not the daunting playoffs ahead.
Not that such concerns have been a problem so far, as evidenced by Thursday’s blowout.
