In what head coach Rich Ward called one of his team’s “more complete game this season,” the Marlboro High School football team beat visiting Red Hook 62-13 Friday.
Rino Tamburri led the Iron Dukes with four touchdowns and rushed for 234 yards. Quarterback Phil DeSantis ran for 163 yards on 10 carries and scored two touchdowns.
“They’re running the ball really well, following their blocks,” said Ward of Tamburri and DeSantis. “The line is doing a nice job opening up some holes, so it’s pretty much a team credit.”
Tanner Harshberger rushed for 85 yards and scored one touchdown. Harshberger also returned a punt 51 yards for a touchdown.
“He didn’t have many touches but he was productive with the touches he had,” Ward said of Harshberger. “He’s another weapon we’re using that makes us more balanced.”
On defense, Tamburri made 13 tackles. Caleb Haney made 12 tackles, and Frank Zebrowski made 11. John Mooradian recovered a fumble and brought it back 16 yards for a score.
Red Hook’s offense came from Nick Michitsch, who had a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown.
“I have to give credit to Rich Ward and his team. They really just outplayed us and physically dominated the game,” Red Hook coach Bill Stutz said. The Raiders (2-3) will visit Spackenkill at 7 p.m. Friday.
The Iron Dukes will take on Wallkill at 7 p.m. Friday.
