Clay-Chalkville (Chalkville, Ala.) quarterback Ty Pigrome passed for five touchdowns and ran for two to help the No. 6 Cougars hold off Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville) 53-34 Friday night.
Pigrome’s primary target was Alabama commit T.J. Simmons as the two connected on four touchdown passes. Pigrome, a senior, has passed for 30 touchdowns and run for 10 this season.

Clay-Chalkville (10-0) may have expected an easier game as the Huskies (6-4) were playing their first game without quarterback Zac Thomas, who broke his leg last week in a loss to Hoover. In his place, however, sophomore quarterback Davis Burgin threw two touchdowns passes and running back Jarrion Street ran for two touchdowns.
While Clay-Chalkville pulled away late, there were 10 lead changes in the game.
The Cougars enter the playoffs next week having scored 50 or more points in six consecutive games.
