MURFREESBORO — Vic Johnson ran 29 times for 145 yards and four touchdowns, and Cookeville dominated in the second half to pull away for a 42-21 win over Riverdale on Friday night at Tomahawk Stadium.
Gabe Angel also proved to be a tough cover, running five times for 55 yards and a score, and catching three passes for 46 yards.
“I don’t think it was any question who the best players on the field were,” Warriors coach Ron Aydelott said. “We’ve seen enough film on them to know that 7 (Angel) and 9 (Johnson) were the guys we were gonna have to stop, and we didn’t stop either of those two.”
Riverdale (5-5, 3-4 Region 2-6A) will played on the road Friday in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs, and Cookeville (7-3, 4-3) will play a home game.
