The Patriots are going back.
The John Jay High School football team, seeded second in Section 1 Class AA, will play the winner of Saturday’s semifinal between top-seeded New Rochelle and fourth-seeded Scarsdale for the section championship at Dutchess Stadium on Nov. 7.
Last year, John Jay became the first team from Dutchess County to win a football section title.
To get back to the championship game, the Patriots beat third-seeded Clarkstown North 21-7 on the road in Friday’s semifinal.
John Jay led 14-7 with 2:21 left in the game, and Clarkstown North on its own 28-yard line. The Rams fumbled and the Patriots recovered. Quarterback Ryan Schumacher wrote in the exclamation point with a touchdown.
Schumacher also scored from two yards out with 1:23 left in the half to put the Patriots up 14-0. He connected with Travis Contreras with 3:11 to go in the first quarter to give John Jay a lead it never relinquished.
