It was a night for the underdogs in the Section V Class AA semifinals as No. 6 Fairport defeated No. 2 Victor 2-1, and No. 8 Hilton powered past No. 4 Churchville-Chili 2-0 on Thursday.
Pete Critchlow scored the winner on a penalty kick in the second half for Fairport (9-8-2).
Diego Zavala scored the equalizer for Red Raiders’ six minutes after Victor’s (11-5-2) Spencer Ryczek scored 10 minutes into the match.
Fairport coach Gianni Bussani had told his team: “It doesn’t matter where you start it matters where you finish.”
For the Cadets (9-9-1), Jeff Hibbard tallied a first-half goal and an assist and Matt DeFeo netted a second-half goal to help lead their team to the finals.
Hilton’s first-year coach Mike Ellicott was pleased with the match.
“It’s been a nice sectional run” Ellicott said. “We struggled with defense during the season and now we’ve had three shutouts in a row and are putting up zeros at the right time.”
The Class AA final at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Spencerport will be a rematch of last year. The Red Raiders defeated the Cadets 2-1 last year. Fairport will go for a third straight championship.

Isabelle Selvek tallied 6 kills, 5 aces and 15 assists and Brianna Williams added five kills and two aces for Olympia.
Class D2 first round

Ann Heyen recorded 10 kills, 11 digs and 5 aces and Allure Simmons added 8 kills, 13 digs and 3 aces for Bishop Kearney (13-4).

Sami Bickford had nine kills and one block and Katie Harmon had four kills and a block for Cal-Mum (16-3).

Teaonna Jenkins had 10 kills, 14 digs, and 2 blocks for Lyons (14-7).
Madison Rath had six kills and five aces and Chelsea Wright had 10 digs and four kills for Kendall (11-10).

Lindsay Scott scored the lone goal with just over three minutes left in regulation on a penalty stroke for Schroeder (12-4-1).
Mary Mattice made seven saves in her sixth shutout for Schroeder.
This will be Schroeder’s third consecutive finals appearance.

Freshman Leeanna Caruso assisted Kathryn Grieb three minutes into the second half for Thomas (10-7-1)
Class B/C semifinals
No. 4 Pittsford Sutherland 2, Pittsford Mendon 1
Allison Robinson scored the winning goal with four minutes remaining in regulation for Sutherland (12-5-1).
Hannah O’Connor scored for Mendon (14-1-2) to take a 1-0 lead early in the second half.
Abby Aroesti scored Sutherland’s first goal to tie the game at 1 later in the half.
Sutherland last appeared at the finals in 2013.
No. 3 Brighton 2, No. 2 East Rochester 1
Gianna Palma scored the game-winner with just over four minutes left in the second half for Brighton (12-5).
Ella Charlesworth scored the Barons’ first goal in the second half to tie the game at 1.
This is Brighton’s third consecutive finals appearance.

Class A Final

Kevin Ladd had 134 yards on 34 carries and Austin Carr had 147 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries for Brighton.
Amari Donaldson had 93 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries for UPrep.
Class AA Final
McQuaid 20, Webster Schroeder 8
John Caranci rushed for two touchdowns and made eight tackles on defense for McQuaid (5-4).
Matt Szuromi had two interceptions and Rickey King had seven tackles and a fumble recovery for the Knights (5-4).
Wayne 32, Dansville 22
Alex West had 229 yards and two TDs on 29 carries for Dansville.
