No. 1 Haldane vs. No. 3 Solomon Schechter
Where: At Arlington High School, 1:30 p.m.
Key Players: Haldane — Bailey McCollum, Missy Lisikatos, Hannah Monteleone, Marina Martin, Julia Rotando, Sara Labriola. Solomon Schechter — Reese Cohen, Marci Brustman, Eden Gilbert, Lulu Wein, Abby Jaeger, Lily Hochfelder
Outlook: Due to the semifinals being postponed from Wednesday to Thursday, both of these teams will be coming into this game on less than 24 hours rest. Both teams also had hard-fought games, with Haldane topping North Salem 1-0 and Solomon Schechter beating Tuckahoe 2-1 in overtime.
This match will also be a re-match of last year’s final, which Haldane won 6-1.
Haldane has been the dominant Class C school in Section 1 for a while now. Reigning Class C New York State Player of the Year Bailey McCollum is still one of the best talents in the entire area, and defensively, Missy Lisikatos is a rock on the defensive line. Aside from those two, the Blue Devils also have plenty of depth and can also hurt opposing teams with players such as Marina Martin, Julia Rotando and Hannah Monteleone. In goal, Sara Labriola is very solid.
Solomon Schechter has seen an improved work ethic from first-year head coach Chelsey Feldman. Because of the team’s relatively condensed schedule, she said she is confident her team will have the stamina to come out and play hard on Friday. Eighth-grader Reese Cohen has emerged as one of the top goal-scorers in Class C, and she has plenty of support in players such as Eden Gilbert, Marci Brustman and Lulu Wein.
Overall, I think Solomon Schechter will have to play an absolutely perfect game tactically and get a good amount of lucky bounces to compete with Haldane. The game plan will likely revolve around shutting out McCollum, but Haldane has plenty of options that can pick up the slack if Schechter succeeds in that.
Quotable: “The girls are really working hard together, and they are really buying into the idea of working hard and getting the outcome we want based on how much effort we put into the game,” Feldman said. “I haven’t seen (Haldane) play, but I have a scouting report on them. We plan to play our best game and leave it all out there.”
Prediction: Haldane 4, Solomon Schechter 0
