CINCINNATI ST. XAVIER (5-4) AT LOUISVILLE ST. XAVIER (6-3)
Bombers won last year’s meeting 24-6
Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
* After a 4-1 start, the Bombers have dropped three of their past four games after a 34-20 loss to Cleveland St. Ignatius last week. Junior quarterback Sean Clifford, who has committed to Penn State, has passed for 1,353 yards and 10 touchdowns with four interceptions this season. His top target is tight end and Michigan State commit Noah Davis (27 catches, 295 yards, three TDs).
* The Tigers rolled up 308 rushing yards and cruised to a 51-13 victory over Butler last week. Junior Sam Taylor led the way with 123 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. The St. Xavier schools are meeting for the seventh straight season, with the Bombers holding a 4-2 edge in the past six contests. The Tigers will host Eastern next week in the first round of the Class 6-A playoffs.
Quotable: “I’m pretty happy with where we’re at,” Tigers coach Will Wolford said. “Coming into the season we really only had two players with much varsity experience, so we knew it would take a little while and we’d get better, almost by default. This game is another opportunity to show how we’ve improved and matured and that we’re ready for the rigors of the postseason.”
The pick: Cincinnati St. Xavier 21-10.
