Cocoa, Heritage and Merritt Island each won district football championships last week and will play final district games Friday night, their playoff berths already secure.
Two other games, featuring Viera and Holy Trinity have major implications as Week 10 games approach. A win means a district title in both cases. For Holy Trinity, a loss would be tempered by the knowledge the Tigers will still begin the Class 3A playoffs on Nov. 13 as a runner-up.
For the Hawks, a loss could mean a three-way tie atop District 6-7A and remaining uncertainty about whether the team will play a playoff game in two more weeks.
A third team, Melbourne High, still has a shot at the postseason. Despite losing their first seven games overall and their only two district games, the Bulldogs could find themselves in their own three-way tie for second with a win over Martin County.
All three of these Friday games will be played in Brevard.

“Our motivation has to be toward the district championship,” Holy Trinity coach Nate Hooks said. “The loser gets Clearwater Central Catholic.”
Clearwater Central, 9-0 and No. 3 in 3A, is the anticipated District 5 champion and would be the regional quarterfinal matchup for the loser of Friday’s John Carroll-Holy Trinity game in Melbourne. That’s plenty of motivation for a team wanting more than a one-game postseason appearance, but there is more.
“It’s homecoming. It’ll be the biggest crowd of the season,” Hooks said, “and we haven’t won a district championship since 2004.”
Viera can complete an unbeaten 6-7A season by beating South Fork, but if the Hawks lose in combination with a Martin County win at Melbourne, there would be a three-way tie for first. If Viera and Melbourne both win, the Bulldogs would be in a three-way tie for second in the four-team district.

In the playoffs: Astronaut, Cocoa, Heritage, Holy Trinity, Merritt Island, Palm Bay
In the hunt
Viera: The Hawks win the District 6-7A title by beating South Fork on Friday. A Viera loss combined with a Martin County win over Melbourne creates a three-way tie for first (Viera, South Fork and Martin County) and would require a Monday tiebreaker to determine both playoff spots.
Melbourne: A Viera loss eliminates the Bulldogs. Wins by Viera and Melbourne put the Bulldogs in a three-way tie for second (Melbourne, South Fork and Martin County) and would require a Monday tiebreaker to determine the runner-up playoff spot.
