Elsik (Houston) linebacker Dontavious Jackson is an inside linebacker to his core; so much so that he can’t help but to take a pause then initially be downright noncommittal when posed with a simple question Thursday just after he accepted his game jersey at the latest stop on the Under Armour All-America Selection Tour presented by American Family Insurance.
Which feels better: Trying on your Under Armour All-America jersey or laying a shoulder pad popping smackdown hit on an opposing player?
“Oh man, that’s a great question,” said Jackson, a senior who is ranked No. 5 among inside linebackers in the 247 Sports Composite rankings. “Well, I’ve laid a lot of big time hits on different guys and this is my first Under Armour All-America jersey so I’m gonna have to go with this. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced something this big before. This is a big honor for me. This would probably have to be No. 1 on my list of accomplishments. I’m excited about this one!”

It’s the first of three highs for Jackson over the next three weeks.
Next week the Rams (6-3) face their crosstown rival Hastings (Houston) then the Rams begin their quest for a state title in the first round of the playoffs against Dickinson (Texas).
“Getting my Under Armour jersey definitely has me ready to play against our rivals,” said Jackson, who has racked up 120 tackles so far this season. “They’re already talking a little bit too; you already know that’s gonna be a little feisty. This is the kind of honor that just gives you that extra push to finish the season strong.”
He’ll need all the energy he can muster up because not only is Jackson laying hits and taking names over the next few weeks, he’s also taking visits to colleges.
Jackson will visit Texas on Nov. 7 then he’ll take visits to Michigan, Alabama and Florida.
“I haven’t locked in the dates for the last three visits just yet, but I’m visiting them for sure,” Jackson said. “It’s a busy schedule, but this is what I do. I don’t plan to decide until Signing Day though. I love this game and I’ll have a lot to think about and focus on over the next couple of months.”
For now, Jackson plans to celebrate donning his Under Armour All-America jersey by having dinner at Houston’s with his family.
“I love the food there!” Jackson said. “We’re just gonna have a good time and celebrate this one because this is the one I really wanted. I can remember seeing guys posting their pics of them in their jerseys on Twitter and Instagram and now it’s my turn. It feels great.”
