Harper Creek girls’ swimming & diving
Larson has had her sights set on breaking Harper Creek’s school record for a six-dive score, and the junior did just that Oct. 27 in a road meet at Sturgis. The All-American posted a score of 281, besting the previous benchmark of 255 set by Nicole Gilbert. Larson had been chasing the record for the past 10 dual meets, and had been within six points of matching Gilbert’s total a staggering seven times before finally breaking through.

McKinzie has been the catalyst for the defending Class D state champion Tigers all season. The senior outside was a big part of the Fighting Tigers sweep over Jackson Christian in a ‘Dig Pink’ contest that also served as ‘Parents Night’ and ‘Senior Night.’ McKinzie totaled four kills and four assists for No. 2-ranked St. Philip. A first-team All-State selection in 2014, she has verbally committed to play alongside her sister Amanda McKinzie at Virginia Tech, but will first look to join an exclusive club of individuals who are four-time state champions.
TEAM OF THE WEEK
It had been 85 years since the Coldwater varsity football program made it through the regular season unscathed before the Division 3 No. 3-ranked Cardinals earned a 35-14 victory over Adrian. The last time Coldwater went undefeated in the regular season was in 1930, when the Cardinals went 10-0 and were crowned Class B State Champion by the Detroit Free Press.
