Merritt Island and Merritt Island Christian both advanced in regional quarterfinal volleyball on Tuesday, earning spots in Saturday’s regional semifinal matches.
The Mustangs won their 26th against just two season losses by dominating South Lake, 25-8, 25-7, 25-14. They will next play Bishop Moore, which defeated Rockledge in another Class 5A regional quarterfinal, 25-11, 25-12, 25-11.
The Mustangs, who have played in three of the last four state tournaments, got nine kills each from Alyssa Zwolensky, Lexy Denaburg and Ashley Cube. Anna Garrett contributed 32 assists.
In Class 2A, the Cougars advanced nearly as easily. They defeated Lake Worth Trinity Christian, 25-10, 25-23, 25-11
