STURGIS – Harper Creek’s Devon Larson broke the school diving record on Tuesday in a dual meet at Sturgis.
Larson successfully set the new diving record for the Beavers with a score of 281.0 – 20 points better than the previous benchmark. Back in July, she was named to the 2014-15 NISCA/ Speedo Girls 1-meter All-American Team.
Harper Creek lost the meet at Sturgis, 100-86.
Other event winners for the Beavers were Jena Wager in the 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke, Elizabeth Wolfe in the 100 freestyle, Kelsea Popps in the 100 backstroke, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Amelia Tomalka, Popps, Wager and Wolfe.
PORTAGE CENTRAL POWER TOURNAMENT: Lakeview went 0-2 with losses to Forest Hills Northern (22-25, 25-6, 25-10, 16-25, 16-14) and Class D No. 2-ranked St. Philip (16-25, 17-25, 18-25). The Spartans were led on the night by Rose Tecumseh with 21 kills and three blocks; Sidney Schiller had 15 kills, 10 blocks and three aces; Emma Morey had 36 assists and three aces; Emily Eldridge had 16 assists; Aiden Baum had 22 digs; and Kayla Callaway had 15 digs.
HERITAGE CHRISTIAN TRI-MEET: Calhoun Christian went 2-0 with wins over Grace Christian (25-20, 25-12) and host Kalamazoo Heritage Christian (30-28, 22-25, 15-12). The Cougars were led in the victories by Kirby Frodge with 27 kills, five blocks and 16 digs; Abby Parks had 30 assists, 24 digs and four aces; Lindsey Barry had 18 digs and seven kills, Hannah Huling had 11 kills and Kara Twiest had 21 digs.
