Trevor Karasiewicz has a little extra pep in his step.
For the past several months, the Port Huron Prowlers hockey coach has had this week in mind.
Now with the Prowlers main camp and first preseason game only days away, Karasiewicz is finally nearing the moment he has long awaited.
“Everyone is excited,” Karasiewicz said. “It is going well. We have 30 guys here that are trying to make the team. Everyone had their physicals (Monday) and we are allowed to get on the ice (Tuesday through Thursday).
“We can dress 20 for the exhibition game and a lot of my guys under contract won’t play much. I’m looking to see the guys that are trying to make the team.”
The Prowlers will take on the Danville Dashers at 7:30 p.m. Friday at McMorran Arena in an exhibition game. The Prowlers will open the season Nov. 6 at the Dayton Demolition before returning home the next night for the home opener against the Dashers.
“I like how everything looks on paper,” Karasiewicz said. “I can’t wait. It’s exciting for me. Since they named me as head coach I’ve wanted to show the town that we are serious about winning.”
The Prowlers will practice twice a day from 10 a.m. to noon and from 2-4 p.m. beginning today through Thursday. The week of preparation will culminate in the preseason game against Danville. The practice sessions are all open to the general public.
That is a lot of hockey in a short amount of time, but the new Prowlers seem excited and ready to go.
“I just want to stay positive and work on the simple stuff and get everything going,” Prowlers forward Jake Lobato said. “It’s all about getting in the right shape you need to be in and start thinking about where you want to be going forward.
“I think we will start fast. We have some good guys with some good experience. I’m super excited to be here and I’m ready to play. It’s a great feeling.”
