The meeting decided to constitute 351 quick response teams to patrol the city on the election day
Lahore police have finalised a security plan for the upcoming local government elections.
A meeting in this regard was held at Qila Gujjar Singh Police Lines on Tuesday. Operations DIG Dr Haider Ashraf chaired the meeting.
Lahore has been divided into 12 zones under the plan. Each zone will be supervised by a Superintendent of Police (SP). A total of 18,000 policemen will be deployed across the city on the elections day.
Out of these, 7,000 policemen will be deployed at the 3,332 polling stations. The meeting decided to constitute 351 quick response teams to patrol the city on the election day.
Police have been provided 12,000 metal detectors for checking voters at polling stations. There is a ban on display of weapons.
SHOs and DSPs will visit polling stations and offices of political parties ahead of the elections. They will prepare assessment reports and identify sensitive areas.
Ashraf directed the SHOs to establish pickets in the city and check vehicles. He also directed Mujahid Squad SP Karrar Hussain to hold flag marches in the city. He said that candidates should cooperate with police in ensuring security on the polling day.
