Between those two boys were Theo Cox (685) and Michael Harmon Jr. (680) of Edgewood, whose team later defeated Rockledge in the district final. The Raiders also qualified for state, as did the Merritt Island girls.

Cox and Harmon both credited teamwork with the win.

“You know if you mess up you’ve got a whole team behind you,” Cox said. “That just gives you more confidence that you’ve got someone else to pick you up.”

There will be more high school bowling today at Palm Bay Shore Lanes. Teams in District 11, the southern half of Brevard County, will compete in another all-day event with state qualification on the line.

The state tournament will be Nov. 4-5 at Boardwalk Bowl in Orlando.
