The Chartiers Valley girls’ Volleyball team concluded their 2015 regular season on October 22, 2015. The final match was against West Allegheny, a section rival. It was senior night for the Lady Colts and the team was hoping for a win to celebrate the night. Unfortunately, although the Colts started off strong by winning the first set, they ended up losing the hard fought match, three sets to one.
Prior to the game, the five seniors on the team were recognized along with their parents. The senior players are Allie Ferri, Sadie Arnold, Leah Marodi, Maura Malone, and ShyAnne Toomer. It was an emotional night for the girls; before, during, and after the game. The team had the biggest crowd of the season, with many family and friends showing up for the final game. Laura Rodavich, CV Volleyball Booster President, put out several emails that read, “WHITE OUT!” Many fans showed up in white shirts and the team also handed out white CV shirts and CV towels. One of the highlights of the evening was head coach Jason Ferri, and his daughter Allie, singing the National Anthem together.
After the match, the team and their families celebrated the senior girls with a small party. The underclassmen read letters they had written about the seniors and the coaches spoke about their outstanding qualities.
Matt Work, assistant coach, said, “I could tell by the 5th open gym this summer that you five were going to be great leaders.” The coaches told the girls they all brought something different to the team, and the younger girls definitely learned a lot from them.
The Lady Colts will play in an end of the season tournament at North Allegheny on Saturday, October 24. It will be the final time this group of girls will be on a volleyball court together.
