Lakeview High School senior Andrew Walker has been named an honorable mention Rolex Junior All-American, according to a release sent Monday by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA).
Walker is the two-time reigning ‘Mr. Golf’ Award winner for the state of Michigan by the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association and captured the Division 1 individual state title last spring. He is verbally committed to play at Michigan State University.
Walker won twice in the AJGA in 2015, including the longest playoff in AJGA history when he defeated Jacob Cook of Kentucky in eight holes at the National Resource Partners Bluegrass Junior. He also won the Randy Wise Junior Open and in 2013 became the fifth-youngest person in history to qualify for the U.S. Amateur.
This year’s Rolex Junior All-American teams are comprised of 96 junior golfers, ages 13-19. The teams were determined exclusively through the Polo Golf Rankings as of Oct. 13 – where Walker was listed as the No. 38 player nationally and the top boys’ golfer from the state of Michigan.
Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Hunter Mahan, Rickie Fowler, Paula Creamer and Lexi Thompson are a few of the many former Rolex Junior All-Americans to go on to have great success in golf.
The Rolex Junior All-American Teams will be honored No. 22 during a banquet at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Each honoree has also been invited to play in the Polo Golf Junior Classic, Nov. 21-27 at PGA National Resort and Spa.
