Every minute Dexter Lawrence spends on the field is one minute closer to his dream. The Wake Forest High School defensive tackle dreams of one day entering the big leagues, not just for the glory, but for his family.
“THE DREAM I AM PURSUING RIGHT NOW IS TO BECOME A PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL PLAYER AND PROVIDE FOR MY MOM, MY BROTHER, AND MY FAMILY. TO GIVE BACK FOR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE FOR ME.”
Talking to LeBron James. Seeing everything he has accomplished; I would try and get pointers.
I like to eat fish. At team dinners we eat mostly baked chicken, potatoes, things like that.
A DREAMER TO WATCH
Remember the name: Dexter Lawrence.
The Wake Forest defensive tackle is going places. He has multiple offers from some of the top colleges. His name consistently lands at the top of prospect rankings. He has an army of supporters wherever he goes.
He also has a dream.
And best of all, he has the initiative that his dream requires.
As one of the top prospects in the country, Dexter has the ambition and heart needed to make it to the pros. From early mornings in the weight room, to the sweat and stress of daily practice, he continues to work towards his goals and overcome obstacles with an unrelenting passion.
“What keeps me motivated in tough times is remembering why I’m doing what I’m doing; knowing why I play the game,” he says.
It’s a quality that his family, friends and community can’t help but admire.
“He has the drive. He puts in 100% each and every day, because that’s what it takes to be successful,” marvels Patti Hamler, principal at Wake Forest’s High School.
What makes Dexter’s dream even more inspiring is the way he shares his positive outlook and leadership outside the gridiron. Over the past few years he has become pillar in his community. Described by others as a “gentle giant,” his modest and down-to-earth nature has earned him the respect of peers and adults alike.
Dexter often speaks with youth in his community and embraces his position as a role model by bringing his team-oriented attitude to every interaction.
Even being named the #1 athlete in the nation hasn’t changed how he works at practice,” says Reggie Lucas, the head football coach at Wake Forest High School.
On top of his dream of going professional, Dexter takes pride in his education and is determined to graduate from college with a degree in engineering.
It’s safe to say Dexter will accomplish great things – on and off the field. As one of the top prospects in the country, Dexter has the passion, perseverance and dedication to bring his evolving dreams to life.
