Girls swimming: Rapids, Marshfield at Wisconsin Valley Conference meet, 5:45 p.m. Thursday at UWSP: The Raiders finished 4-2 in the final WVC dual meet standings, losing only to SPASH and D.C. Everest. Rapids placed fifth in last year’s meet and returns the 100 breaststroke champion, Grace Hartman, who had a time of 1 minute, 7.45 seconds. Marshfield is led by Elizabeth Holbrook, whose strong events are the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke. The Tigers placed sixth last year.
Volleyball: Spencer vs. Stanley-Boyd at Edgar, 7 p.m. Thursday: A pair of Cloverbelt rivals and No. 1 seeds will battle to take one step closer to the state tournament. Spencer was the undefeated conference champ for the fourth straight year, going 7-0 in league matches. The Rockets’ last sectional tournament appearance was in 2012 and the squad qualified for state in 2011.
Cross country: Local qualifiers at WIAA state meet, noon Saturday: Medford senior Jarod Rudolph heads into his second state meet undefeated. Rudolph won the boys 5K race at Edgewater Country Club in 16:10. The Stratford boys and girls qualified as a team to the state meet which will be held Saturday at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids. The Auburndale girls also made the cut as a team by winning the Edgar Division 3 sectional on Friday.
