METAIRIE, La. – Jerry Foley, the coordinator of WWL-TV’s High School Football Player of the Week, All-District teams and Prep Top 10 rankings, was honored by the New Orleans Saints for 40 years of service to prep football.
Foley began the program, which highlights prep football players in the mid-70s, under then sports director Hap Glaudi. His efforts continue today.
Foley organizes the coach’s, who nominate and vote for the top players and the rankings. He has also been coordinating Coach of the Week honors for the Saints for the past 17 years.
“WWL-TV gives you all the tools you need,” said Foley. “They are top notch supporters of high school football, and we have the greatest high school coaches in the world in the New Orleans area, south Louisiana,
Foley said his efforts started in an effort to recognize, who he believed to be under-recognized athletes, who at times played second fiddle to pro and college sports.
“Jerry does the hard work, the legwork to make this program possible,” said WWLTV.com’s Tom Planchet, who worked with Foley in the 80s and 90s on the prep program.
