Reno’s McKenna LeVitt was the only Division I singles winner from the Northern Region at the NIAA state tennis tournaments Saturday in Las Vegas.
LeVitt beat Green Valley’s Dasha Shalina, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 to advance to today’s semifinals, where she’ll face Angelique Friedrich of Bishop Gorman. Friedrich was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Bishop Gorman’s Brittany Leonard.
In boys doubles, Reno’s Riley Boyden and Ian Rinehart, the top seeds, advanced with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Cole Davidson and Lucas Hammond from Bishop Gorman. The Reno team will face another Gorman team in today’s semifinals at the Darling Tennis Center.
In Division I-A boys singles, Truckee’s Zach Haas advanced to today’s semifinals with a 6-3, 6-2 win. In doubles, Kevin Cross and Colin Deurlington from Truckee, and Louis Marin and Mickey Sullivan from South Tahoe moved on.
In girls doubles, Izzy Martinez and Paige Thorn of Fallon advanced to the semifinals, wining both sets, 6-3.
