Rico Dowdle and Reynolds are scoring at an unparalleled rate, at least compared to any other football team in the program’s 55-year history.
Friday’s 63-6 home win over McDowell means the Rockets (8-1, 4-0) have now scored 30 or more points in nine consecutive games and more than 50 in three straight (Asheville, Enka and McDowell). Both are firsts for Reynolds.
Dowdle passed for 140 yards and a touchdown Friday at Dalton Stadium. He also ran for 105 yards and four touchdowns on just six carries to increase his season touchdown total to an area-best 43.
Andrew Moore was on the receiving end of Dowdle’s touchdown pass (21 yards) at the 3:47 mark of the first quarter. Nathan St. Onge added 75 rushing yards and a touchdown. Deshawn Finley, Sean Jones and A.J. Logan also scored touchdowns. River Naisang made all nine of his extra points.
Reynolds scored the game’s first 63 points and had a high enough sum in the first quarter (42) to induce the NCHSAA’s mercy rule, which is a running clock.
