This week, it was the St. John Bosco defense that showcased why the Braves may be the nation’s best team.
While Bosco’s offense continued to rack up eye-popping statistics, the Braves’ defense stonewalled a Junipero Serra offense for nearly three full quarters before finally yielding in the final minute of the third while holding a 54-0 lead. Inspired by a pregame speech from the one and only Goerge Forman, the final score was 60-7, marking the eighth consecutive week when St. John Bosco has forced an opponent to endure a running clock .

Naturally, that touchdown proved of little consequence for Bosco or JSerra. Neither did it diminish what the Braves accomplished, building up a 40-0 lead at the half while playing within themselves, cobbling together one of the most impressive performances of the season. For the Braves, JSerra was just the latest would-be contender to run into Bosco’s rather particular buzz saw. A week earlier it was a tough squad at a traditionally powerful Mater Dei program. Next comes a 5-3 Orange Lutheran team before the Braves finish the regular season with a match up against the disappointingly mediocre Mater Dei squad.
Winning the way out heading into the playoffs seems quite feasible, for now. Do so will required continued leadership from the likes of Sean McGrew and taking the rest of the season one week and game at a time, just as they have.
So far, so good in Bosco-land.
