No. 18 Gonzaga takes down Good Counsel | USA Today High School Sports

Sam Brown threw two touchdown passes and Mitchell Johns had two interceptions to lead No. 18 Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) to a 32-13 win Friday at Good Council (Olney, Md.).

Good Counsel (5-3) went up 7-0 early in the second quarter on a 1-yard run by Andres Castillo but didn’t score again until the fourth quarter, when Travis Nannen threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Owen Peters.

Brown found Max Fisher on fourth down for a 3-yard touchdown pass to tie the score at 7-7 just before halftime. Good Counsel had a chance to score just before the half but Johns ended the threat with an interception for Gonzaga (8-0).

In the second half, Brown retained the hot hand, driving the Eagles 60 yards and finishing the drive with a 9-yard touchdown pass to Joey Freeman to put the Eagles up 14-7 early in the third quarter.

Johns’ second interception of the day led to a 22-yard field goal by Brian Johnson to put the Eagles up 17-7 late in the third quarter. Running back Tyree Randolph then opened up the score with a 1-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter and a 37-yard run for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
