Heritage High headed to south to play at Jensen Beach High on Friday night.

JENSEN BEACH — Lasedrick King rushed for 174 yards and three touchdowns to lead Heritage past Jensen Beach 27-12.

Jensen Beach needed a victory in the Class 6A, District 14 matchup to keep its postseason hopes alive, but Heritage crushed that behind a powerful running game.

The Panthers (7-1, 4-0) remained undefeated in district play.

Defensively, Heritage stuffed the Falcons’ rushing attack led by junior Jason Loucks. Coming off a 218-yard rushing night a week earlier in a district win over Eau Gallie, Loucks was limited to just 68 yards and had only three carries that went for double-digit yardage.

“Jensen Beach was playing with a lot of emotion, but we stepped up and the defense dug in, and we got one of those ‘Florida on the road district wins,’ ” Heritage coach Mark Ainsley said.

Jensen Beach (3-4, 2-2) most likely fell out of contention for a chance at the playoffs, but coach Tim Caffey said his players can hold their heads high.

“I’m so proud of these kids for coming out here and battling, because they didn’t give up,” Caffey said. “I thought we did an outstanding job in the first half, and in the second half we had some opportunities we didn’t capitalize on.”

Heritage opened the scoring in the first quarter when King capped a six-play, 61-yard drive with a 6-yard touchdown run up the middle. Austin Hass’ kick made it 7-0 Panthers with 4:13 to play in the frame. But on the ensuing kickoff, sophomore wide receiver/defensive back Jamien Sherwood scooped up the bouncing ball at the Jensen Beach 20-yard line and raced up the middle of the field for an 80-yard kickoff return touchdown. The missed kick left the Falcons trailing 7-6.

Midway through the second quarter, Sherwood again came up big when he stepped in front of a pass by Heritage junior quarterback Daeshawn Mills at midfield and returned it 50 yards down to the Panthers’ 1-yard line. Loucks took it in from there to give the Falcons a 12-7 lead that held up until halftime.

But it was all Heritage in the second half as they oustcored Jensen Beach 20-0 to seal the win.
