Defense and special teams: Cane Ridge’s defense forced five Station Camp turnovers and also returned a punt for a touchdown in a 54-7 victory Friday. Ed Bumbu had an 85-yard fumble return for a TD and Bryson Terrell had an 89-yard punt return for a TD. Cane Ridge had three fumble recoveries and two interceptions in the victory, which improved the Ravens to 7-2 overall and 4-2 in 6-5A. Read more

Shut-down: Oakland’s defense held Cookeville’s powerful running attack and standout Vic Johnson to just 108 yards on 42 carries in a 21-6 Patriot victory. Johnson, the Midstate’s leading rusher entering the game, was held to 44 yards on 19 carries. Read more

Bobo to Bo: Brothers Bo Hodges and Bobo Hodges had a good connection going in Friday’s game against visiting Marshall County. Bo Hodges caught 6 balls for 106 yards and a TD from his younger brother (who finished with 128 yards passing). The freshman QB also rushed for two TDs. Unfortunately for the Hodges, Maplewood suffered a 34-33 double-OT loss to Marshall County. Read more

Picking the pockets: La Vergne picked up a huge win (41-13) over 5-5A foe Lincoln County, thanks to three fumble recoveries for touchdowns. Logan Eubank and O’Shea Benjamin each had 51-yard fumble returns for TDs. The third was a little more unusual, as Daz Dillard picked off a Falcon pass, returned it to the goalline before fumbling. But teammate Maleik Gray was there to recover in the end zone for a touchdown. Read more

We need to do that next week for sure (when La Vergne plays undefeated Independence). We came out ready to play again tonight.
