According to Lourdes coach Brian Walsh, “Timm had a big interception down the field late in the game that saved a (Somers’) touchdown.” It was the “highlight of the game,” the coach said of the play.
Joe Scaglione finished with 159 yards rushing and 18 carries for 126 yards and two touchdowns.
“We really ran the ball in the second half,” said Walsh.
Chris Mulvey caught a 20-yard touchdown pass, and as Walsh put it, “Mulvey had a great game on defense. (Mulvey) controlled the whole middle and played an outstanding game.” Mulvey also came through late in the game with a sack, as did Liam McGhee and Sean McDowell.
The coach also credited Kerry McKenzie for playing a great defensive game.
Kurt Jorgensen kicked five extra points.
Lourdes improved to 6-2 and plays the winner of East Chester and John Jay-Cross River in the Section 1 Class A semifinals on Oct. 30 or 31.
“It doesn’t matter to me who we play,” Walsh replied, when asked which team he prefers to face. “We’re just excited about being in the semifinals. The kids are excited and it’s a big accomplishment.”
