The Beacon High School football team watched a big lead at halftime disappear against visiting Walter Panas Friday, and lost its final game of the season, 19-17.
At halftime the Bulldogs led 17-0, but coach Brian Mahon said his team “just couldn’t hold it.”
“They (Walter Panas) controlled the second half of the game,” Mahon said. “We had trouble stopping them. That was pretty much it.”
Walter Panas faked a punt, converted the first down and subsequently scored. The sequence ignited the Panthers’ rally.
“From there they were able to shut us down,” Mahon added. “We had some quick three and outs.”
Kishaun Bell led the Bulldogs with 43 yards rushing and 55 yards receiving. Forever Williams finished with 55 yards receiving, while John Janos threw for 110 yards and a touchdown.
The Bulldogs finished the season 1-7. Mahon cited the depth issues that his team dealt with from the outset of the year.
“It’s disappointing. But looking back we knew what our issues were going to be with depth,” Mahon said. “We lost some guys on the way and it just kind of caught up with us.”
