Volleyball roundup: John Jay closes out season with sweep | USA Today High School Sports

Behind Megan Flynn’s performance off the bench on Senior Night, the John Jay High School volleyball team defeated visiting Carmel 25-11, 25-23, 25-17 on Thursday in Wiccopee.

Flynn had two aces, five kills and one block. Teammate Sam Fitzgerald had one ace, seven kills and one block. Kirsten Zier added eight aces and seven kills.

“Everybody got in,” said Patriots coach Maria Mahoney, whose team finished the regular season 13-5. “The seniors looked like they were playing together for four years.”

Mahoney hopes to plan some scrimmages before her team competes in the Section 1 tournament next week.

Millbrook 3, Saugerties 0 — Megan Fergus had 13 kills and five digs to lead the host Blazers on their senior night. Liz Halpin added eight kills and one ace, while Emily Kelly had eight kills. Kayla Gusikoff made 31 assists, had four aces and two digs.

“We did a great job with the ball control,” said Millbrook coach Shawn Stoliker, whose Blazers finished the season 16-1. “We were able to hit all over the court and we received contributions from all hitters.”

The Blazers will compete in the Mid-Hudson Athletic League tournament at SUNY UIster Wednesday.

Spackenkill 3, Dover 0 — Nini Sher had eight kills and two aces to lead visiting Spackenkill in a 25-20, 25-16, 25-14 win. Brenna Nelson added four aces and seven assists for the Spartans (16-3).

Theresa Abraham had four service points and Shaneeka Reid had four kills and a block, and Brianna Swart had three service points, four kills, a block and a dig for Dover (5-12).

Marlboro 3, Webutuck 0 — Ashley Votta had nine aces, three digs and a kill to lead host Marlboro in a 25-10, 25-7, 25-21 win. Julia Rusk added eight digs, three aces and two kills, and Amber Mianti had three kills and two aces for the Iron Dukes (12-5).

New Paltz 3, John A. Coleman Catholic 0 — Adriana Crimi had 11 aces and two kills for the host Huguenots who won 25-22, 25-11, 25-21. Kelly Brinkman had eight kills and 10 digs while Morgan Cozzolino made 10 assists and registered seven digs.

Pawling 3, Peekskill 0 — Jaclyn Smith had 13 kills and 14 assists to lead host Pawling in a 25-15, 26-24, 25-21 win. Clara Lombardo added 12 assists, 11 kills and eight aces.

Ossining 3, Our Lady of Lourdes 2 — Noelle Penacchia had 21 digs and three aces for visiting Lourdes in a 25-19, 25-21, 23-25, 15-25, 25-13 loss.

Jessica D’Auria added 16 kills and 17 digs, Ceara Giametta had 33 assists, two aces and 13 digs, Colleen Connaughton had five blocks and five kills, and Grace Rappleyea had eight kills and five blocks for the Warriors (2-15).

Mahopac 3, Roy C. Ketcham 0 — Claire Marino had 10 digs for host Ketcham in a 25-15, 25-12, 25-23 loss. Camila Herrera added 12 assists and five digs, and Dominique Coleman had three kills, two digs and two aces for the Indians.

Ketcham visits Carmel at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
