Shrine Bowl representatives will be on hand Friday at Asheville High for a special pregame presentation to Cougars assistant coach Charlie Metcalf.
Metcalf is scheduled to receive his green North Carolina coaching jacket at approximately 7 p.m., about a half hour before Asheville hosts Roberson in a Mountain Athletic Conference game.
Metcalf has been on the Cougars coaching staff for 12 years. He coaches their quarterbacks and special teams.
Metcalf was at Duke University in recent weeks receiving aggressive chemotherapy for his second bout with cancer — Metcalf was initially diagnosed with Stage III non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2013. He has returned to coaching this week.
The Shrine Bowl is an annual all-star game between North Carolina and South Carolina seniors. This year’s game is Dec. 19 in Spartanburg, S.C.
