SWABI: Awami National Party (ANP) Senator Sitara Ayaz professed her innocence on Thursday and promised to clear her name when she makes an appearance before the upper house of parliament on November 6.
She said she would clarify her position and expose the political vilification campaign launched against her in the name of accountability.
“It’s not an Ehtisab Commission but a political commission, which is acting against the government opponents in the name of accountability on the dictation of the provincial government,” she told reporters upon her arrival in Swabi district on Thursday. “I’m innocent and will prove it soon.”
The ANP leader said that Ehtisab will not happen in a closed room, but now it will occur in the open.
“The commission is acting against ANP leaders without any evidence,” she argued, adding that all this is happening under the supervision of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.
Senator Sitara said that her party wanted accountability not political vengeance. But the accountability process must be carried out indiscriminately, not only to target a specific group, she added. “I will raise voice against the PTI on the floor of Senate.” The ANP senator said that she didn’t commit any crime or corruption as a minister and asked the provincial government to end this political revenge and victimisation of its opposition parties.
However, the PTI district leadership including Rangiz Ahmad, Abdul Sattar and others issued a joint statement, which stated that Sitara Ayaz was blaming the PTI for political victimisation and politics of revenge, adding that if she is innocent then she should appear before the commission.
The commission has even taken action against the PTI’s own minister who was found involved in malpractices, they added.
