Excitement Grows About CV Alumnus | USA Today High School Sports

Chartiers Valley High School has produced some notable alumnus over the years; for instance, Bill Peduto, the Mayor of Pittsburgh, Eric Kush, a center for the Carolina Panthers, and the Ventrone brothers, who both have played in the NFL. However, one alumnus may stick out as one of the proudest.

Basketball icon T.J. McConnell is fighting for a spot on the Philadelphia 76ers roster and some media reports indicate he will be making the final cut in time for the 2015-2016 NBA season.

With that said, the excitement around the community is buzzing with anticipation as to see what happens.

“I think he would be good,” said sophomore Matt Zyra. “I mean from what I’ve seen, he’s a great player and definitely knows what has to be done and when.”

“I think that’s awesome,” said junior Jordan Mokricky. “It’s a big step forward in his basketball career. I’m sure there’s a lot of people that are proud of him too so I wish the best of luck to him.”

“I think that it’s awesome that someone who went to our school is now a professional sports player,” Sophomore Julie Segel said.

Overall, the positive support of the student body, and the community as a whole is very strong. The idea of having yet another pro sports alumnus is an exciting thought and many around here want to see it put into practice.

It would only add on to the proud legacy of Chartiers Valley alumni who have represented their roots in tremendous ways, and contributed to the world around them in fantastic ways. At CV, we hope to see T.J. wearing the red, white, and blue of the 76ers come first tip-off.
