The chase is back on.
After initially committing to UCLA in August, consensus 5-star defensive end recruit Oluwole Betiku backed out of his pledge Friday morning, announcing that he wanted to take a more complete look at all his options.
Here is how the Jenipero Serra star and native of Nigeria broke the news of his decommitment on Twitter (where else?):
Betiku is the nation’s highest rated weakside defensive end according to 247 Sports, and one of the top-six defensive linemen overall in the Class of 2015. He is expected to be a program-changer from Day 1, and he re-entry to the recruiting landscape is a milestone moment for the recruiting cycle . As one might expect, there are no shortage of top programs who are desperate to receive his services. He holds scholarship offers from the likes of Florida State, Notre Dame, Florida and Texas A&M. He’s taken official visits to all of those schools except Notre Dame, and it’s expected that he could add a visit to see the Irish as well.
As for the type of player that any of these schools will be lucky enough to land, Betiku here are two pretty compelling points of reference: He finished the 2014 season with 59 tackles and 11.5 sacks (24 of those tackles were for a loss). Perhaps more compelling, there’s this highlight reel:
There’s a game-changer, coming soon to a school … somewhere. Maybe even near you.
