They pointed out 26% children of school-going age suffer from iodine deficiency disorder
The United Rural Development Organisation joined hands with Action Aid Pakistan and Scaling Up Nutrition Civil Society Alliance Pakistan to observe World Food Day, stated a press release. The theme for this year was ‘Social protection and agriculture: Breaking the cycle of rural poverty’. The event was held at the Directorate of Agriculture in Peshawar on Tuesday with the URDO director general as chief guest. Those in attendance demanded effective measures to address malnutrition and ensure food security in K-P. The participants said the rate of chronic malnutrition in children under five years of age was 47.8% in K-P whereas 8.6% of children suffered acute malnutrition and 8.7% were going through severe wastage. They pointed out 26% children of school-going age suffer from iodine deficiency disorder, 47.3% are anemic and 68.5% under the age of five suffered from Vitamin A deficiency.
