Jaylen Richardson-Green didn’t want his debut season on varsity to end without experiencing any wins.
And he did his part last week to help the Bath football team get in the win column.
The sophomore running back had a season-best 272 rushing yards and three touchdowns while helping the Bees pick up a 30-16 victory over Potterville in a CMAC contest.
“He is a hard working kid that has really turned it on these last few weeks,” Bath coach Matt Stephen said.
Richardson-Green, who was voted the LSJ prep athlete of the week, said his surge in recent weeks has stemmed from not wanting to let his team down.
“I didn’t want to let the team down by failing them considering we’ve already had our two best players go out,” Richardson-Green said.
“Our quarterback that got injured – Jared Moffitt – he told me that I needed to step up as a leader more and I’ve just kind of stepped up for him.”
Richardson-Green had touchdown runs of 23, 52 and 38 yards Friday while helping Bath halt an 11-game losing streak.
“The line – they were just making holes and I was making the right cuts right through the hole,” Richardson-Green said. “Everyone was doing their job.
“It’s a great thing to have (that first win) because we’ve had a rough season with injuries and all of that. Just getting a win just really makes us all feel good.”
