Sarwar thanked PAT chairman Tahirul Qadri for withdrawing his candidate in favour of PTI for the by-elections
The Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) announced on Thursday that they would launch a movement against the government after the October 31 local government elections.
PAT general secretary Khurram Nawaz Gandapur and PTI provincial organiser Chaudhry Sarwar made the announcement following a meeting at the PAT Model Town secretariat. PTI’s Aleem Khan and PAT’s Basharat Jaspal were also present.
The two parties said their movement would be against the government’s role in Model Town riots last year, electoral rigging and corruption. Gandapur and Sarwar said the two parties had a common stance on the rigging and corruption by government leaders. They said that ahead of by-polls in NA-122, the Election Commission of Pakistan had transferred thousands of votes without informing the contesting candidates.
Sarwar thanked PAT chairman Tahirul Qadri for withdrawing his candidate in favour of PTI for the by-elections in NA-122 and PP-147. “The Model Town incident will be remembered as the darkest act of the PML-N-led government.”
Sarwar said that on October 26, they would provide evidence of electoral rigging.
