With two weeks left in the regular season, nine high school football teams in Kentucky still are chasing the dream of an undefeated season.
Two of those squads will meet Friday night as Ashland Blazer (8-0) will host Johnson Central (7-0) in a game that will decide the regular-season title in Class 4-A, District Eight.
Ashland Blazer is led by senior running back Quinton Baker, who has rushed for 1,728 yards and 25 touchdowns. He has committed to Marshall.
Johnson Central features seven players who have rushed for more than 100 yards this season, led by seniors Connor Ratliff (546 yards, seven touchdowns) and Bryce Skaggs (540 yards, seven touchdowns).
Kentucky’s other unbeaten squads are Male (8-0), Simon Kenton (8-0), North Laurel (9-0), South Warren (8-0), Elizabethtown (8-0), Paris (9-0) and Paintsville (8-0).
Male and Simon Kenton both face tough tests Friday, as the Bulldogs will play at rival Manual (7-1) and the Pioneers will host Ryle (7-1).
South Warren will host Warren Central (3-5), E’town will host LaRue County (2-6) and Paintsville will host Raceland (5-3). North Laurel and Paris are both off on Friday.
On the flip side is Logan County (0-8), which has the state’s longest current losing streak at 31. The Cougars will try to end their skid Friday when they host Calloway County (4-4).
