Sarah Buse and Catherine Fell each scored goals and Sacred Heart, the top defensive team in the state statistically, earned their 17th shutout of the season against No. 24 Male (15-7) with a 2-0 win.
“There was a delay in the game because the game before us went over and I think that sort of messed with our heads, so it took us a little while to get in the flow,” Buse said. “But after a while, we calmed down and worked together and finished the game out.”
Sacred Heart (17-4-1) will face Assumption in Friday night’s 6 p.m. final. The Rockets knocked off Manual 3-2 in overtime in Wednesday’s other semifinal.
The Valkyries, who are riding a streak of seven straight shutouts, have allowed only seven goals all season, and two of those came in a 2-1 loss at Assumption on Sept. 27.
“We’re excited for a rematch,” Valkyries coach Jaclyn Puntillo said. “That’s a very, very talented team and it’s a rivalry game so it’s always going to be a good game. We’re excited about the prospect of playing them again.”
Added Buse: “It’s definitely a huge competition, but we’re ready to win another regional championship.”
