PESHAWAR: NAB K-P arrested the former chief engineer of the public health engineering department on Wednesday for allegedly misusing his authority and causing losses worth Rs24 million to the exchequer. Allauddin Khan will be produced before an accountability court to obtain his physical remand. According to a handout issued by the bureau, the former chief engineer has also been accused of taking kickbacks from supplier companies. “The planning and development department had constituted a provincial committee to regulate the provision of products and materials,” read the statement. “All user departments were expected to procure these products from qualified firms and suppliers.” The handout added Allauddin, who was then the chief engineer of the department, shortlisted a group of fake firms which would act as suppliers. The former chief engineer did not advertise this list. On the contrary, he issued a circular which made it mandatory for all departments to obtain material from these companies.
