When darkness fell on Day 1 of the Carey Cup at Metedeconk National Golf Club, the Golfing Union of Ireland was leading the Metropolitan Golf Association by a 3-2 margin .
There was one four-ball match still on the course.
Luke Feehan of Mahopac and Darin Goldstein of Noyac came back late in the round to post a 1-up victory against Colin Fairweather and Rowan Lester. It was the lone MGA point in the foursomes matches and GUI went to lunch with a 2-1 lead.
Brian Komline of Black Oak and Trevor Randolph of Arcola got the other MGA point, leading off the four-ball matches with a 1-up win. Feehan and Stewart Hagestad of Deepdale got back to all-square on the 17th hole of their afternoon match when play was suspended.
They will resume the match at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, and singles play is scheduled to begin at 8:15 a.m.
