The best part about this incredible play by Zach Lewis is the guy yelling, “There we go,” when the Eastside Catholic (Sammamish, Wash.) sophomore quarterback’s 10-yard pass bounces off an opponent’s helmet and back to him, as if Lewis planned to throw a touchdown to himself.
The entire sequence is capped by Lewis carving up the defense with a weaving 10-yard TD run. Remarkable. He posted the play to his Instagram account a week ago with the caption: “Watch this closely. I never thought I would throw a touchdown to myself ? crazy play lol.”
Crazy, indeed. What’s crazier is that the play is only the first of a four-minute highlight reel shared on YouTube that includes a ton of TD passes and runs not to himself — and Lewis is Eastside Catholic’s backup quarterback. The Crusaders are 7-0 under Cornell-bound senior starter Harley Kirsch, but Lewis has thrown four of his 17 pass attempts for scores and rushed for another three touchdowns in spot duty, according to the team’s stat page on MaxPreps.
So, maybe Lewis did mean to throw that TD pass to himself. Let’s at least pretend he did.
