Volleyball sesason comes to an end | USA Today High School Sports

With the majority of the season already over, the girls volleyball team is embracing new, and young leadership.

After graduating seven seniors and five starters, as well as seeing Coach Ruppert, long-time coach of 11 seasons, retire, the team started the season with one returning starter and a new coach.

With two seniors on the team, Taylor Bostick and Julia Bernesser, the team looks to some of the younger players to make a big impact.  Comprised of mostly juniors, the varsity rotation also consists of two sophomores.

But these new changes are causing some growing pains as the team’s current record is 6-7.

Since their playoffs hopes have been crushed, the girls hope to boost their record over .500, which in order to do that they must win their final two games.

Even though it is so late in the season, the Lady Titans are still improving their game on the court.

“We are a team in the middle of rebuilding, and we have the talent to be a good team, but right now we are just trying to get everything and everyone to work well together,” said junior Bridget Nickel.

With any new team comes new issues, but the girls are optimistic for the final stretch of the season, and have high hopes for next year.

“Next year I think will be a better outcome because we will be more experienced.  For a lot of girls on the team this is their first time playing varsity.  With more experience the team can only get better,” said Nickel.

The Lady Titans will play Gateway tonight, and will play Oakland Catholic on Thursday for their Senior Night to end the season.
