Prep roundup: Delton-Kellogg soccer wins playoff opener | USA Today High School Sports

KALAMAZOO – In the opening round of the Michigan High School Athletic Association boys’ soccer district playoffs on Monday, Delton-Kellogg beat Comstock by a score of 2-1.

In the first half, the Colts took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Mubark Hasan, but the Panthers came back with two second half goals.

Delton-Kellogg’s Payton Warner found the back of the net on an assist from Max Dometzky to tie the game at one apiece.

Dometzky scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal later in the half off of a pass from Torben Schenck.

Goalkeeper Sam Morgan had five saves for the Panthers, who will continue their playoff run on Wednesday at Hopkins High School at 4:30 p.m.

LUMEN CHRISTI 2, PENNFIELD 1 (SAT.): The Panthers capped off their Interstate Eight schedule with a 2-1 loss to the Titans. With ten minutes remaining in the first half, Pennfield’s Isaac Ayers scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at one-apiece, but Lumen Christi won the game in a shootout. Keith Browand had 12 saves for Pennfield, who finished the regular season 3-13-2.


PENNFIELD 3, OLIVET 1: The Panthers won the non-conference contest in four sets, 25-18, 25-18, 19-25, 25-22 on Senior Night. For Pennfield, Alexa Stephenson had 23 kills; Lexi Pervis had 11 kills; Teone Lewis had seven blocks; Montana Rench had 30 digs; Carly Kyre had 11 digs; Molly Boles had 14 digs; Kennedy Barlond had 31 assists; and Kailey Jackson had 24 assists.

MARSHALL ACADEMY 3, TEKONSHA 0: For Marshall Academy, Stephanie Van Meter had 11 kills, Elayna Hoyt had 22 assists, and Samantha Snyder had 10 aces.

COLOMA INVITE (SAT.): Delton-Kellogg was 3-3 on the day, losing in the semi-finals to Mendon (17-25, 25-22, 9-15). In pool play, the Panthers beat Brandywine and Three Rivers and lost to Mendon and Coloma.

HARPER CREEK INVITE (SAT.): Coldwater’s Jayda Kelly placed second in the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 25.92, which is a new school record. Also breaking a school record for the Cardinals was Kory Ulrich in the 200 Individual Medley in 2.42.41. Erica Rodgers also brought home a medal for Coldwater, placing sixth in the 100 Butterfly in 1:13.41.
