Channel 3 Sports is proud to continue its “Student-athlete Shout out” feature series during the 2015-16 school year. Each installment will spotlight the recent accomplishments of a deserving Northeast Ohio high school athlete.
Brooklyn’s Julia Walz
Brooklyn High School volleyball coach Debbie Hall describes sophomore Julia Walz as her team’s MVP heading into the postseason.
The underclassman has the on-court stats and intangibles to back up the claim.
As a co-captain and the team’s defensive leader, Walz leads the team in digs (286), serve receives (359, 91 percent) back-row kills (52) and service aces (32).
“When it looked like all else failed, Julia would come through with phenomenal saves as well as a final kill for the point,” Hall said. “Julia’s never-give-up or give-in attitude was inspiring through this rough growing year.”
Brooklyn, the 12th seed in the Division III Parma district tournament, opens postseason play against fifth-seeded Clearview Tuesday night at Holy Name.
