It’s the final day of the regular season in Section 1 and there are many teams that have games with varying playoff implications. As I tweeted yesterday, the No. 1 seeds look pretty clear in each class. Arlington locks it up in Class AA with a win over Carmel today and the same goes for Pearl River in Class A if it beats Nanuet. If Arlington loses, Port Chester could jump up to No. 1 in AA. And if Pearl River loses, it looks like Byram Hills would move to No. 1 in A. Valhalla in Class B and Solomon Schechter in Class C have already clinched No. 1 seeds. But there could still be a lot of movement when it comes to the rest of the seeds based on Monday’s results.
As of right now, there definitely 18 teams getting into the Class AA field, 22 in Class A and 15 in Class B. But there are a few teams that are teetering on the edge who could qualify with wins today, such as Spring Valley, Clarkstown South, Mount Vernon and Yonkers. A win doesn’t automatically put all of those teams in, but it will certainly help their causes.
I’ll continue to monitor the situation when it comes to qualifying and seeding, so follow me on Twitter @vzmercogliano for updates throughout the day. For now, here is today’s schedule with my picks in bold.
