Marysville falls short in Davison | USA Today High School Sports

DAVISON – The Marysville High School volleyball team was 4-1 Saturday at the Davison Tournament.

The Vikings defeated Mount Pleasant 25-15, 25-18, Swartz Creek 25-23 and 25-15 and Davison 26-24 and 25-21. They also defeated Midland Dow 26-24 and 23-25 and 15-11 before losing to Davison 17-25, 25-13 and 10-15 in the semifinals.

Payton Husson led Marysville with 54 kills. Devan Valko added 94 assists, 34 digs and six blocks, Alicia Hall had 11 aces and Bailey Bowns had 26 kills and 38 digs. Hannah Delor had 27 kills and Sam Miller had seven blocks for Marysville (35-4-2).

Mooney claims Catholic League title

Cardinal Mooney claimed its second straight Catholic League title Friday night with a 25-22, 25-19 and 25-21 victory over Saint Catherine of Siena.

“We had a huge task ahead of us and we had the top team in the league coming in,” Cardinal Mooney coach Dennis Caulfield said. “And we had to beat them in three sets in order to retain the title and wow did the girls respond. They did just that this was truly a total team effort.”

Mooney was lead by Anna Vorderbrueggen with five blocks, seven service points and nine kills. Calista Chaltron added seven service points and 13 kills and Lilly Wolf had 31 assists.

Michelle Rovito added six service points and four kills and Abbey Guilliat had eight service points and 27 service receptions.

Cardinal Mooney (5-1, 22-6) will return next week for the Catholic League playoffs.
