ST. JOSEPH — Four turnovers proved costly for the Lakeview football team on Friday, as host St. Joseph made the most of them in a 45-21 win over the Spartans in Southern Michigan Athletic Conference crossover action.
The Bears (7-1) rushed 57 times for 332 yards and passed for 98 yards against the Spartans (5-3).
Lakeview was led offensively by Jay’Vion Settles with six carries for 170 yards and two touchdowns. Skyler Nichols tallied 10 tackles and a 42-yard interception return for a touchdown that cut the deficit to 17-14, but it was all St. Joseph from there. Also for the Spartans, Travis Snyder made 10 stops.
Lakeview now turns it’s attention to next week’s regular season finale when they host Gull Lake for a shot at securing a sixth victory and an automatic berth in the MHSAA postseason.
