PORT CHARLOTTE – Friday night, Port Charlotte moved past Ida Baker 47-27 at Pirates Cove.
The Pirates (4-3, 3-0) were given 277 yards and three touchdowns by fullback Brennan Norus.
Ida Baker quarterback Jordan Diggs and receiver Rasheed Golden accounted for 190 yards and a touchdown, but was the lone mass-producer as the Bulldogs struggled to find paydirt outside of the two.
“We just couldn’t stop the run,” Bulldogs coach Brian Conn said. “Port Charlotte out-physicaled us out there tonight. We didn’t run the ball, we didn’t stop the run very well. You just hope they get a fumble on one of the pitches or you can rip it out.”
Norus wasn’t the only one making his mark for the Pirates. The defense had teeth throughout, using strength and heads-up decision-making to hold Ida Baker’s ground game to just 68 yards.
Ida Baker was held to a field goal for the game’s first 22 minutes as the Pirates built a 20-3 lead behind touchdowns from Norus, Ernest Harvey and Paul Barnes.
Ida Baker (3-5, 1-2) kicker David Montoya hit two field goals and three extra points.
