Borden’s Julien Magallanes raced to the individual championship in the IHSAA boys cross country regional at Crawford County on Saturday.
Magallanes toured the 5K course in 16:03.3. The top five teams, plus the top 10 individuals who were not members of qualifying teams, advanced to the semistate at Brown County on Oct. 24.
Tell City won the team title with 48 points, followed by New Albany (79), North Harrison (88) and Floyd Central (115) in the 10-team field.
In the girls race, Floyd Central’s Kassidy Manning crossed first in 18:53.2. Jasper won the team crown with 46 points while Floyd Central settled for second with 50. Jeffersonville (fourth with 153) and New Albany (fifth with 163) also advanced.
In the regional at Bedford North Lawrence, Eastern Pekin finished fifth to earn a semistate berth. The Musketeers were paced by senior Josh Ratts, who finished third overall in 16:01.6, and freshman Caleb Futter (8th in 16:21.6.
Bloomington South, paced by individual champion Evan Franklin in 15;27.2, won the team title with 60 points. Eastern totaled 137.
In the girls race, Salem’s Sandra Warren (20th in 20:20.0) and Tressa Pate (31st in 21:07.8) advanced as individuals. Bloomington North won the team title with 39 points while sophomore Grace Williams was the champion in 18:22.9.
